That's why I always disable automatic update and I recommend you to do the same. If you have it installed on your PC nevertheless, just open Command Prompt (type cmd.exe in Start menu) with administrator privilegies and type in following command:

wusa /uninstall /kb:3086255

This update disables secdrv.sys driver, which many games with SafeDisk copy protection rely on.

It seems to me that Microsoft tries to bring some "features" from Windows 10 to Windows 7 (for example, scdrv.sys was completely deleted in Windows 10, or just take recent KB3068708, KB3022345, KB3075249 and KB3080149 updates, which installed tons of diagnostic and telemetry services spying on user).

Hey that patch, it works but man oh man does it cause my game to slow down, takes 30-40 seconds to start bf, and then the game lags switching and clicking on the multiplayer, singleplayer buttons on the main screen.

any idea how to fix that?

Maybe it has something to do with compatibility mode.

That patch from team-simple supposedly sets Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode and "Run as admin". So, those who had their game working properly before this should try to just replace the files manually with this (not for the Origin version): http://team-simple.org/download/bf1942-v1.61-retail-patched.zip (for Origin and other versions see http://team-simple.org/download/). I think this way it will keep the same compatibility mode settings as before.

Now for you, if you remember what compatibility settings you used before the patch, try to set those. If you don't - try a different mode, or no compatibility mode.

So I tried the new patch, and what happens is Forgotten Hope launches, although it takes some time, and it lags like crazy to hit the buttons, when I got to activate fhsw, I get a black screen and bf 1942 completely crashes, so currently I can't run FHSW.

Should I try a complete reinstall and then use the patch you provided starking? Or what do you think I should do?

I have a battlefield 1942, windows vista, 7 compatibility fix, that might be getting in the way.
Should I uninstall that?

FH I used the 3 pack installer, everything was running fine before the new windows update, do you think i should remove the compatibility thing and then install the 1942cf?

When it comes to the FH files the only difference between the two FH installers is the objects.rfa file (located in \Battlefield 1942\Mods\FH\Archives). The installer you linked to has the objects.rfa file from "Compatibility FIX for FH 0.7". Death, you can save some time for downloading and installing by downloading this much smaller package which includes the relevant objects.rfa file which you can manually place in \Battlefield 1942\Mods\FH\Archives:
http://www.moddb.com/mods....-for-fh
Its readme says:
Quote
This fix allows you to play Forgotten Hope 0.7 without any compatibility mode on Windows Vista and Windows 7

I don't know if it's true for FHSW or not.

and run the gamespy patch againhttp://team-simple.org/downloa.....61.exe

Death said that the problem appeared when he installed this patch, so it appears that it caused the problem. Specifically, I suspect that the fact that it set BF1942.exe to Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode is what caused the problem.

So what I would recommend (after making sure you have the right objects.rfa) is to go to the \Battlefield 1942 folder and right click on BF1942.exe, then click Properties, then Compatibility then make sure "Run as administrator" is on and then disable the XP SP3 compatibility mode if it is on (uncheck "Run this program in compatibility mode..." or whatever it is in your interface). Then you will try your game with these settings first. Click OK, load FHSW, join a server and play a little and see if everything is OK. If it is not, go back to the Compatibility tab and try various Windows version modes, starting from the latest and test again.

Also, supposedly BF1942CF:

Quote
sets only the individual compatibility fixes necessary to run BF1942 with FH in Vista and Win7 without invoking the complete OS compatibility mode.  The full mode contains a long list of fixes that aren't required for BF1942 and cause unnecessary system restrictions.

It sounds like it should be better than any of the compatibility modes, but I don't know exactly what it does and if it works or if it causes problems in some combination with something else. But if you experiment with all those compatibility settings you should find one that works with no problems and probably also loads FHSW maps faster (about 2 minutes or less). Or ask somebody who has the same Windows version as you what are the best compatibility settings for that Windows version.

yeah that will work to but i find that bf1942cf make bf1942 not work very well when you want to minimize bf1942  it will crash more
but when you use xp sp3 compatibility mode on win 7 it wont crash as much  so i dont like to use bf1942cf just to fix fh when can use new installer so can work without it and my load time are not very long on win xp sp3 mode
