It's been a while, hasn't it? School has been burying me so it's been very hard to keep up. But I'm coming back! (soon)

Anyway, so today I was wandering about the web wondering why no one had attempted to make a Korean War mod for BF1942 when I suddenly stumbled upon these images.

Impressive, no?

Turns out all this is from an old mod made by a couple of American college students 11 years ago. It's called "Operation Anubis" and focuses on hypothetical post-1945 WWII battles with post-war/experimental technology as you can see. their site is here (hasn't been updated for a while).

Unfortunately the mod is so old that it requires v1.45 of BF42 to run. I have v1.61 like most of us and it wouldn't install for me. So as of now it looks like there's no way of accessing these beauties...

Well anyhow, I thought it was an interesting find. Did any of you guys already know about this? What do you think?

Hi Cable smile

Yes I've seen this mod before but it's Vanilla gameplay and quality so nothing special or worth playing nowadays imo.

Yes, the mod itself is unplayable now. But those models...

Surely they can't just be left to rot in a dead mod forever, right?

I don't know anything about moddeling but in my opinion these models are of very low quality; even compared to normal FH equipment.
The Shooting Star may be the best.

They could be remodeled to look better, maybe we should consider saving these?

Here's the DL link for the installer

But as I said earlier it won't work for versions of BF1942 newer than v1.45. BUT If we could find a way to downgrade a copy of the vanilla game to 1.45 and then install the mod, we would be able to retrieve the files for these models.

I think changing string which contains version in registry before running the installer should do the trick:

Step 1. Open Run->regedit

Step 2. Open:

Origin:

x64:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\Origin\Battlefield 1942 \ergc

x32:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\Origin\Battlefield 1942\ergc

CD:

x64:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942

x32:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942

Step 3.
On the right side you should see a registry key named "INSTALLEDVERSION", double-click it.

Step 4.
Type in "1.04.5" (but don't forget to change it back after running the installer).

Though I agree with eYe and Xen here: mod is nothing much.

This actually works without having to downgrade BF1942. I believe the installer's code was causing the problem.

So now we have access to the models. They're not perfect right now, but with a little love we can refurbish them and bring them into the 2010s thumbup

Sorry, I just uploaded what was in that installer from Gamefront, can't do anything with it. Seems like this version called 1.0 (and in readme too), but ingame it's 0.8.

here take a custom version of the modification with my fixes and additions that I had made in the past

this is the download link:
http://uppit.com/7l2torbz9q8o/operation_anubis.rar

the file goes to ....\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 1942\Mods\....

changed the map icons of the B35, Arado, Me329
fixed the wreck of the M26, M24, Centurion, Avenger, B35, Jager
added M26
fixed the location of the M26 tracks, muzzle effect, coaxial gunner muzzle effect
(by the way the M26 still needs fixing)
added M24
fixed the location of the M24 gunner
fixed the gunner of the Avenger
fixed the weapon icons of the Isu 152
added crosshair icon to the Puma
fixed the weapon A.I. of the Puma so the bots use it
fixed the location of the pilot of the Shinden
changed the propeller engine sound of the Arado (that was from a Boeing) to jet engine sound (six engines are six times the sound of one engine)
fixed the second gunner view of the Arado
fixed the location of the cannon projectiles of the Henschel
fixed the gunner of the Me329
fixed the A.I. of the B35, Hornet, Ki94, Henschel, Me329 so the bots use them
fixed the weapon A.I. of the Avenger, P80, Hornet, Ki94, Il2, Arado, Henschel, Me329 so the bots use them
added the missing wreck of the MiG9, Schnellbomber
added the missing vehicle icons of the P80, B35, Meteor, Kikka, MiG9, Me109, Arado
added the missing gunner vehicle icons of the B35, Arado
added the missing engine sounds of the Hornet, Henschel
added the missing gunner muzzle effects of the Fugaku, Arado, Schnellbomber
added Schnellbomber

It doesn't matter how much content it has when the gameplay isn't appealing to me.

But I can respect the work they put in back then when it was a lot harder to mod on this engine.
